On the 1st of December, the 3rd to 5th classes of the HAK Leibnitz went to see the play “On the brink”, performed by the Vienna English Theatre in Hugo Wolf Saal.
The play itself is a modernization of the ancient drama ‘Antigone’. This modern version focusses on the climate crisis in a very interesting way: It portrays the niece of the CEO of a company that extracts oil, who eventually becomes a climate activist.
The play and its characters were very interesting. Even though the play wasn’t all too long, the character development was still very prevalent and surprising, though it was very well performed and written so that the developments all made sense.
Especially the discussions that the characters led about climate change offered different perspectives. And, though climate change is obviously real, it was very interesting to see a presumably competent character – the CEO of the oil company who should know better – try to excuse his horrible actions.
We really enjoyed the performance and subject matter and are very glad we got to attend the play.
